Kathy of North Plains Oregon sent us this great tasting graham cracker pie crust recipe. To get started first you will need to take out a medium size mixing bowl. Pour into the bowl the Honey Maid graham cracker crumbs, white superfine sugar, and melted real unsalted butter. Using a wooden baking spoon vigorously stir the pie crust batter together until it's smooth and consistent. Next take out a nine inch pie plate and evenly spread the pie crust along the bottom and sides of the plate. Make sure that your crust layer has an even thickness throughout. Lastly you will want to bake your crust in the oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit or 205 degrees Celsius for ten minutes. Keep a close eye on your graham cracker pie crust while it's in the oven as you do not want to over cook it. That concludes this recipe, please be sure to check out all our other homemade graham crackers recipes.
Jaime out of sunny Jacksonville Florida sent our website administration the following graham cracker pie crust related question. She asked can I use light brown sugar in this recipe? You can indeed use light brown sugar for this recipe instead of standard white granulated sugar. I would however up the called for amount to half a cup just to make sure you have enough crust volume. When I made this recipe with brown sugar it did have more of a caramelized flavor and texture than the white granulated sugar had, but it was still absolutely delicious nevertheless.
If I had to choose a brand of light brown cane sugar then I would definitely use C&H brand sugar. The company offers both light and dark brown sugar and both will work in this pie crust recipe extremely well, however the flavor will deviate between the two. If you are interested in more information about the two blends of sugar then simply visit their website. I don't believe that you can purchase the light brown sugar directly from them however their products are available in almost every supermarket throughout North America. It's also available for purchase online at select retailers.
Oscar from the renown city of Las Vegas Nevada emailed our webmaster this excellent question. He asked how can I use this graham cracker pie crust recipe? There are a multitude of different things that you can do with this pie crust recipe, for example you can use it to create a traditional or standard pie, fruit cobbler crust, or you can even use it as a cake crust. The most common types of pie that use this type of crust are plain cheesecake, pumpkin pie, apple pie, blueberry pie, blackberry pie, lemon meringue pie, cherry pie, key lime pie, custard pie, strawberry pie, and many others.
I would also like to mention that you do not have to create a standard nine inch circular pie crust using this recipe. Please feel free to create a crust layer that fits whatever particular dessert recipe that you happen to be using it for. If you need a larger amount of graham cracker crust than what this crust recipe calls for then scale out the ingredient proportions. I've scaled out the recipe for a much larger cake crust and it worked perfectly. You can also scale down the ingredient proportions evenly for much smaller pies, mini cakes, or to use as a sugary dessert crumble topping.
